Ich habe mit diesem Blog schon geraume Zeit meine Probleme, die sich auch mit einem Wordpress Update nicht beheben liessen. So kann ich seit langem keine Links mehr hinzufuegen, hoechstens loeschen und manchmal hat mein Blog keine Lust und schneidet einfach Text ab. Da hier mittlerweile auch die Benachrichtigung fuer Kommentare nicht mehr funktioniert und ich wertvolle Strick- und Spinnzeit nicht fuer Blogprobleme verschwenden moechte, habe ich jetzt die Entscheidung getroffen, meinen Blog nun doch zu Wordpress umzuziehen. Seit meiner Anmeldung bei Wordpress vor einiger Zeit hat sich dort einiges getan und ich habe sogar ein Layout nach meinem Geschmack gefunden :) Die vorhandenen Eintraege aus diesem Blog konnte ich inklusive Kommentare importieren, so dass der neue Blog nicht leer starten muss. Ich hoffe, Ihr zieht mit mir um und wir lesen uns in meinem neuen virtuellen Heim wieder :) Ihr findet mich ab sofort unter

I have a few problems with this blog for quite a long time now which didn’t get better with updates and in the meantime I don’t get any information about comments. I don’t want to waste knitting and spinning time for blogging problems and so I decided to move my blog to Wordpress.com. There are a lot of changes since I signed up for a Wordpress account and I finally found a layout I like. I could import all the entries from this blog that the new blog doesn’t have to start empty. I hope you’ll move with me and we’ll read each other in my new virtual home :)

Da es hier immer noch sehr winterlich ist und der Fruehling noch eine Weile auf sich warten laesst, spricht auch nichts dagegen, dass ich weiterhin Schals etc. stricke. Fertig geworden ist der Clapotis aus Lorna’s Laces, Sonderfaerbung “Autumn Wine” fuer das Retreat im letzten November.

Aenderungen / modifications: Anstatt Maschenmarkierer zu benutzen habe ich die Maschen, die spaeter fallen gelassen werden, links gestrickt. Ausserdem habe ich 2 Zunahmen auf jeder Seite weggelassen, da ich nur 3 Straenge Wolle hatte. / Instead of using stitch markers I purled all drop stitches. I skipped two increases on each side because I only had 3 skeins of yarn.

Letzte Woche habe ich auch noch etwas Wolle gefaerbt, fuer die ich schon ein konkretes Projekt in Planung habe. Als naechstes moechte ich gern Norah (Ravelry Link) stricken. Verwenden werde ich ein handgesponnenes Garn, das zum Teil schon in meinem Stash vorhanden ist und ich noch einen (groesseren) Teil spinnen muss. Ich diskutiere immer noch mit mir, ob ich diese Jacke nun in Rot oder Schwarz stricke. Als erstes dachte ich an Schwarz, da ich dringend noch eine schwarze Zweitjacke zum viel getragenen Ribby Cardi brauche. Dann habe ich ueberlegt, dass mir das Rot von der Sockengarn-Ueberfaerbe-Aktion so gut gefaellt, dass ich das gleiche Rot auch fuer eine Strickjacke verwenden koennte. Maria bestaerkte mich darin und meinte, dass ich ja die ebenfalls geplante Mariah-Jacke in schwarz zeitgleich stricken koennte. Diese Idee finde ich auch gut. Ueber’s Wochenende habe ich mich aber wieder umentschieden und gedacht, ich stricke sie doch lieber in schwarz, da ich morgens, wenn ich in meinem Kleiderschrank stehe, am Ende doch zu schwarz greife und ich fuer ein rotes Kleidungsstueck ziemlich gut drauf sein muss, um so aus dem Haus zu gehen… Im Moment liegt der schwarze Strang nochmal im Faerbetopf, um die hellen Stellen zu ueberfaerben und auszutesten, ob ich noch ein dunkleres Schwarz hinbekomme. Wenn beide Straenge wieder trocken sind, werde ich Maschenproben stricken und mich dann hoffentlich entscheiden koennen.

Last week I also dyed some handspun yarn from my stash for which I actually have real project plans. My next project will be a Norah (Ravelry link) and I want to knit it with a handspun yarn that is already in my stash and part of it I have to spin because it’s not enough yet. Me, myself and I are still discussing if I will knit the sweater in black or red. The first color was black because I need a second cardigan in addition to my daily worn Ribby Cardi. After the last weeks sock yarn overdyeing activities I was thinking that I could knit the cardigan in the dark red. Maria said the same and that I could knit the also planned Mariah cardigan in black at the same time. Over the weekend I re-decided and was thinking about knitting it in black because when I’m standing in my closet in the morning I almost always take the black and have to be in a really good mood to actually leave the house in a red sweater… At the moment the black skein is in the dye pot again to overdye the light spots and to get a darker black. When both skeins are dry I will knit some swatches and maybe then I get a decision.

Am letzten Samstag habe ich mich mit Mtlaise zum Faerben getroffen. Wir hatten das schon seit Januar geplant, aber durch mein sprunghaft angestiegenes Arbeitspensum mussten wir es leider ein paar Mal verschieben. Nun hatte es endlich geklappt und wir haben bis in den spaeten Abend gefaerbt, neue Techniken ausprobiert und gequatscht. Ich habe jetzt endlich rausbekommen, welches Gruen ich eigentlich gesucht habe und unbedingt kaufen muss: Jarquard Kelly Green :) Gefaerbt habe ich ein bisschen Kammzug und eben gruene Sockenwolle. Das gemeinsame Faerben hat sehr viel Spass gemacht und muss unbedingt wiederholt werden :)

Last Saturday I met Mtlaise for our so long planned dyeing day. Actually we’re planning that since January but due to my crazy work level it didn’t work out until now. Finally we made it and dyed and tried new techniques and talked until late at night. I now know which green I was looking for and have to buy next time: Jaquard Kelly Green. I dyed some roving and green sock yarn. The dye day was totally fun and I think we have to repeat that :)

Ich denke, jede(r) Stricker/in mit einem Stash, der groesser ist als ihre zur Verfuegung stehende Strickzeit im naechsten halben Jahr, hat ein paar Knaeule, die ihr/ihm nicht mehr oder nicht mehr ganz so gut gefallen, schon weil sich der Geschmack mit der Zeit aendert. So ging es auch mir und deshalb habe ich am Wochenende etwas dagegen getan.

I think almost every knitter with a stash for more than the next half a year has some skeins that she (or he) doesn’t like that much anymore. So am I and last weekend I did something.

Das sind die haesslichen Ausgangsknaeule, bei denen ich mich am Ende gefragt habe, warum ich die eigentlich gekauft habe:

Ich habe mich an den Ausgangsfarben orientiert und habe das Farbthema beibehalten. 

I kept the color theme of the balls.

Mir gefallen sie sehr gut und die Farbmischungen fuer das Rot und das Gruen werde ich auch noch mal auf ungefaerbtem Garn oder Fasern austesten (ich notiere mir immer, was ich zusammenmixe, um Farben reproduzieren zu koennen).

I like them much more now and will use the mixure for the red and the green with undyed fibres again (I’m making notes about my mixures of dyeing to re-produce colors I like).

Ansonsten macht mir grad die Zeitumstellung auf Sommerzeit zu schaffen, die hier schon am letzten Wochenende war. Im Moment haben wir naemlich nur 7 Stunden Zeitverschiebung zu Deutschland. So, nun ist meine Mittagspause gleich vorbei…

Besides that I don’t like the time change to the daylight savings time. Because of the earlier time change we now have only 7 hours difference to Germany. So, lunch break is over…

Seit meinem letzten Post Ende Januar ist es hier ein bisschen still geworden, aber manchmal nimmt das Leben hinter dem Blog seinen eigenen Lauf und laesst einem keine Zeit, auch nur ein Wort darueber zu verlieren. Arbeitsmaessig hatte ich seit Mitte Januar alle vorhandenen und nicht vorhandenen Haende voll zu tun, um die Unterlagen fuer 2 wichtige Termine vorzubereiten und weil das noch nicht genug ist, sind wir Ende Januar auch noch umgezogen. Das neue Heim ist schoen (schoener als das alte) und wir fuehlen uns pudelwohl.

It’s a little bit quiet here since my last post in January but sometimes life just happens and doesn’t allow time to blog a word about it. I was on a crazy work level since middle of January due to 2 deadlines and because that is not enough we moved at the end of January. The home is very nice (much nicer than the old one) and we’re feeling at home right from the beginning.

Gestrickt habe ich trotzdem was oder gerade, denn wenn ich dann mal eine freie Minute hatte, habe ich lieber gestrickt als am Computer zu sitzen und darueber zu bloggen, dass ich keine Zeit zum Stricken habe ;)

I knitted a little bit anyway when I had a few free minutes instead of sitting on the computer to blog about that I don’t have time to knit ;)

Mojo socks

Bei den Mojos hatte ich echt ein paar Probleme und habe an meinen Sockenstrickkenntnissen gezweifelt. Irgendwann stellte ich fest, dass ich auf dem Holzweg war und erinnerte mich daran, dass die Drachenwolle eine 6fache anstatt der angenommenen 4fach war. Irgendwann teilte ich den Strang in zwei 50gr-Knaeule, um sicher zu gehen, dass die Wolle fuer beide Socken reicht. Was soll ich sagen: ar***knapp trifft genau den Punkt. Das letzte Bild zeigt, was ich uebrig habe. Ich habe den Anfangsfaden der ersten Socke mit der Russian Join Technik an den laufenden Faden der 2. Socke angeknuepft, um die Spitze fertigstellen zu koennen und das sogar zweimal. Aber sie passen, sind schoen dick und gefallen. Das ist die Hauptsache :)

I had some trouble knitting the mojos and felt like knitting my first pair of socks. Later I remembered that the yarn is not a 4ply, it was a 6ply. I divided the skein in two 50gr balls to be sure I have enough for both socks. What I have to say? Having a good amount of yarn left is a different thing. The last picture shows what I have left. I put part of the long tail from the beginning of the first sock with the Russian Join technique on my current thread to finish the toe of the second sock twice. But they fit, they are thick and I like them :)

Die Antwort auf das Raetsel von gestern ist ganz einfach: ein Eichhoernchen, das sich bei -20 Grad auf unserem Fensterbrett versucht hat, etwas in der Sonne aufzuwaermen. Leider kann man auf dem Photo nicht wirklich viel erkennnen, weil sich unser Stoffrollo in der Fensterscheibe spiegelt und irgendwie haben wir es wohl auch aufgescheucht :( Hatte ich schon mal erwaehnt, dass es hier keine roten Eichhoernchen gibt, sondern nur graue und schwarze? Schwarze Eichhoernchen!

The answer for the picture mystery is pretty simple: a squirrel was laying on our window board outside at -20 degrees to warm up a little bit in the sun. Unfortunately you can’t see it clearly because our blinds are mirroring in the window and maybe we woke it up :( Did I mention before that squirrels in Europe are red and not gray and black? Black squirrels

Ausser den beiden Geschenken bekamen wir in dieser Woche 2 Paar gebrauchte Langlauf-Ski von meinem Chef. Aufgrund des vielen Schnees wurde hier in Calgary ein Golfplatz zur Skipiste umfunktioniert und so waren wir heute nachmittag fuer eine Stunde im Confederations Park, um unsere neuen Ski auszutesten. Fazit: Kondition ist was anderes und ich lerne morgen bestimmt einige neue Muskeln kennen

In addition to the two gifts we got some used crosscountry ski from my boss this week. The golf court in the Confederations Park is a skiing area now and so we went there today to test our new skis. Solution: being in good shape is a different thing and tomorrow I’ll learn some new muscles

Das zweite nachtraegliche Weihnachtsgeschenk, das ich dieses Wochenende bekam, ist ein Jumbo-Wollwickler von Strauch und eine passende grosse Schirmhaspel aus Schweden (Anderssons, nicht von IKEA ) Ich habe mich fuer diesen entschieden, da dieser bis zu 500 Gramm wickeln kann und das sich besonders bei den dickeren Straengen meines Handgesponnenen gut macht, da diese teilweise ueber 200gr schwer sind.

The second belated Christmas gift I got this weekend is a jumbo ball winder from Strauch and a large umbrella swift from Sweden (Anderssons, not IKEA ). I wanted to have a jumbo winder because it can wind balls up to 500gr and some of my handspun skein are more than 200gr.

Bilder von beiden habe ich leider noch nicht, aber von dem, was ich damit gleich ausgetestet habe. Ich hatte im Sommer BFL roving erstanden und wollte daraus Lace-Garn spinnen. Da ich nur 113gr hatte und natuerlich alles verwenden wollte, hatte ich mich dazu entschlossen, alles zu spinnen und dann ein Knaeuel zu wickeln, um daraus zu zwirnen. Nun ist Wickeln von Lace-Garn mit der Nostepinne nicht gerade meine Lieblingsbeschaeftigung und auch nicht grad schnell, so dass die Spule mittlerweile gut abgelagert war ( ). Heute war ihr Tag gekommen und ich habe das Knaeuel ganz fix gewickelt und nicht so fix gezwirnt und bereits zum Strang gewickelt und die Lauflaenge (502m/113gr) errechnet Ich moechte irgendwann den Swallowtail Shawl daraus stricken.

I don’t have pictures of both but of that what I did with them today. Back in summer I bought some BFL roving and wanted to make some lace yarn out of it. I only had 113gr and wanted to use everything and that’s why I decided to spin all in once and make then a centre ball to ply from it. But winding a ball of lace yarn with a nostepinne is not my favorite and time consuming… the bobbin was sitting since summer but today was its day: I wound the ball, plied it and skeined it and also have the yardage (502m/113gr) Someday I want to knit the Swallowtail Shawl out of it.
